Promoting computer-assisted reporting in Britain

Commenting on my post about computer-assisted reporting yesterday, Danny Sanchez suggests that anyone interested in learning more about CAR should join the listserve run by the National Institute for Computer Assisted Reporting in the United States.

That’s a very good piece of advice. I have learned a lot just by lurking on that list.

Following an excellent investigative reporting conference last summer, Heather Brooke and I have talked about setting up an organisation similar to NICAR to promote the development of computer-assisted reporting in Britain.

It hasn’t really got beyond the vague chatter stage, but if you’re a UK-based journalist interested in this, please join our “BICAR” listserve as well.

  3. I’m definitely interested in this, and have signed up. As someone who teaches both online journalism and new media skills such as web design I’ve an interest in both the journalism and the technical aspect of this.
