The tabloid format spreads

So far, the broadsheet newspapers’ enthusiasm for switching to the tabloid format seems to be confined to the European side of the Atlantic.
But now, via Newsdesigner.com, I see that the Chicago Tribune is thinking of going tab.
Incidentally, if you want a hint of what the Guardian’s Berliner-size format might look like when it comes out later this year, check out its weekly tabloid-size student edition, which is only available at a handful of universities.

I’d be very surprised if the Berliner Guardian looked anything like the Student Guardian. You might as well say, “Take a look at the G2 section for a hint of the new style.”

On this side of the Atlantic we have New York Newsday, The New York Post, and Barron’s among others in a similar format.
I find the tabloid style easier to read, especially in crowded trains and airplanes. I suppose many Californians would also find the format easier to read while driving to work in the morning.
