		<description>curiosity led me to search for the carbon footprint of the internet,obviously that led me here.but whilst the information i found above is a part of the answer i also need to know roughly the total number of servers running worldwide,including service providers as well as storage and search engines.but more importantly how many home + company pc's are connected up as an average over a 24 hour period, and there average powere consumption. any help on these questions would be much appreciated. thanks spiderbark.</description>

Efficiencies represent an ever-present energy resource. Centralized consumption such as a server farm represents a prime target for significant efficiency gains.</description>
